Summer 2016 NewsletterThe next time you visit the Fowler Branch Library go around to the side of the library opposite the parking lot to see our new dedicated seed garden. This was made possible by a STEAM grant acquired by Fayth Chamberland, children's librarian at the Main library. We plan to conduct seed saving classes in the seed garden. The first class will take place in August. Stay tuned for the date!
The Main Library also has three new dedicated seed garden boxes. See them above! How is your garden growing with the seeds you borrowed from the seed library? We'd love to hear about your garden and we'd love to see pictures that we could put up on the seed library's website. Just send your garden news to [email protected] and thanks. There isn't much seed left but you can check the seed library's seed inventory at www.concordseedlendinglibrary.org and click on seeds and seed inventory. We'd like to share the following information about this year's Concord Food, Farm, and Garden Fair. September 10 – September 11, 2016 The Concord Food, Farm & Garden Fair is a weekend-long celebration of local food where you can: buy local produce and flowers at the Farmers Market on Main Street; explore local gardens, and farms; and eat deliciously from the land, the restaurants and markets, and kitchens of Concord! The Fair is so-sponsored by the Concord Gardeners Cooperative and the Concord Agriculture Committee. The Fair is coordinated by a group of community volunteers. The Concord Food, Farm and Garden Fair’s communications partner is the Concord Food Network, a program of the Concord Food Collaborative. In order to keep lettuce and other cool weather crops going in your gardenyou will need to keep sprouting new plants to replace the ones that have bolted or otherwise given up due to the heat of high summer. Remember to water your garden in the early morning or evening and not during the heat of the day. Water your tomatoes at the base of the plants. Tomatoes would rather not get their leaves wet. Please write and let us know what kind of programming you would like to see at Fowler this fall and winter. What aspects of gardening do you want to know more about? We will be looking for speakers for after the gardening season and we want to be sure we are giving you the information you want and need. Happy Gardening! Enjoy the summer. |
