Seed Swap, Saturday, 3/9/19
What do I bring?
- Envelopes and your non-hybrid, non-GMO seeds and your seed stories!
What do I not bring?
- Seed collected from hybrid plants, as it won't grow true to type. - Seed older than 4 years as it won't be viable. Most seeds will remain viable for 2-4 years if kept in a cool, dry place, out of the light.
- Some seeds (onions, leeks, parsnips, celery, spinach) are only good for a year unless stored especially well.
- GMO seed.
Can I bring saved seed to donate to the seed library?
Of course! If it's a large quantity, we'll put it aside and repackage in a little while, for the seed cabinet. If it's a small amount, please put out on the tables.
How many seeds from the swap may I take?
We're not putting limits on how many of the seed swap you take. We suggest taking only what you plan on using this year.
How many seeds from the cabinet may I take?
For the seeds we have packaged in the cabinet, please be take no more than 5 packages of seeds.

Thank you, Ben and Mark, for a very successful grand reopening talk on March 11, 2017!
We had a full house and a wait list for our re-opening event with owner Chef Ben Elliott of Saltbox Farm and Saltbox Kitchen and Farm Manger Mark Congdon!
The talk was so interesting and everyone was enthralled to hear your back story as well as your suggestions about how to grow and sow in our "new normal" climate here in New England.

SEED: The Untold Story screening February 15th| 7:00 - 9:00pm | FREE
Where: Museum of Science, Boston
Treasured since the dawn of mankind, seeds feed us, clothe us, and provide the raw materials for our everyday lives. They are in a very real sense life itself. Cultivated carefully by humans for 12,000 years, our once abundant seed diversity has been drastically reduced to a handful of mass-produced varieties, predominantly held as private property by corporations that control over two-thirds of the global seed market.
SEED: The Untold Story follows passionate farmers, scientists, lawyers, and indigenous seed keepers who are defending the future of our food. "Gorgeous and fascinating in a non-pedantic way," this harrowing and heartening documentary is more than a cautionary tale of "man against nature." It is an epic "good-versus-evil" saga playing out in our modern lives.
